Went to fetch my boy from the clinic just now. I’m not feeling like a very happy chappy right now … I haven’t had a good day – haven’t really been able to concentrate on much at all … blegh.
Son#1 is at home now – he crashed straight away, and he’s allowed to sleep here tonight and tomorrow night. However, he has to check into the clinic for about 20 minutes on both Saturday and Sunday at 10am. He’s allowed to spend some time with his dad again, so I think that’ll be for breakfast or something tomorrow, with Son#2 as well. But those are the only outings allowed. And none of his friends or the GF is permitted to come over.
This may sound really harsh, but I’m starting to feel very trapped and claustrophobic! I was *hoping* that I would get a bit of time to myself – it’s seriously been months since I had even a day “off”. Is that terribly selfish of me? I mean, of course I’ll do what’s right for Son#1, no question about it, AND I want to spend time with both the kids, but I’m starting to feel like I really need a break, somehow.
Urgh. I don’t know … perhaps it’s all getting to me a bit. The thought of being in the house all weekend is rather yucky, especially as it’s the first weekend Sir G won’t be here with me. Shit.
I’m trying to hang in there, just feeling a bit bored and sad and lonely …

Wow, it’s been a heavy day … let’s end it on a slightly lighter note, shall we?
I have started a new family tradition. Well, it kinda started itself a few years ago with Son#1, but we continued with Son#2 over the weekend.
Here’s how it goes:
When you spot your very first teeny sprouts of dark armpit hair emerging, immediately come and show me and everyone else who is in the house at the time.
Hold up your arms so we can all squint into your armpits to examine the evidence of your forthcoming manhood.
Stand their proudly, with a big grin on your face as we “ooooh” and “aaaaaah” over the little black blighters!
Give us a few minutes to squeeze your already-red cheeks and playfully punch you in the gut as we rag the hell out of you.
And then, my young man, you get given a set of keys to the house.
Hairy armpits = you’re old enough for a key 🙂

WOW, I am not touching sides today 🙁
I’ve been running around playing Mom’s Taxi, trawling through Cavendish Square again to find Son#1 some shoes to wear to the GF’s matric dance (decided to get a back-up tie as well, just in case he doesn’t like the one GF has organised – this boy is LANK fussy!!) and just generally doing the whole headless chicken thang!
My Inbox is too scary to look at, I’ve lost track of what’s happening in the cricket and I haven’t had a chance to eat anything yet!
I’m frantically trying to get the last bits ‘n bobs sorted in Son#1’s room before I have to run out and attend this afternoon’s Family Support session at the clinic.
My house looks like the proverbial bomb has hit it, what with all the stuff cleared out from my boy’s room still sitting around – I need to sort and toss.
And there’s bugger all food around, but I am not going to have time to go grocery shopping before tomorrow.
Sheesh … there just aren’t enough hours …
Rapidly running out of steam too! Think I need to break my coffee drought again (although my sore head ain’t gonna like that one.)
And off I go again … later xxx

Yes, as per usual, I have a gazillion tasks to do today, but here’s the thing …
If there’s only ONE task I get stuck into over the next 10 or so hours, it’s sorting this out:

|
This is Son#1’s room as of right now and trust me – this is damn friggin’ neat ‘n tidy for him … you can actually see the floor!
I want to get in there and completely clean it out for him, before he comes home on Friday.
They say that your external environment is a direct reflection of your internal environment. Ergo messy room = messy life.
Although I do agree with this to some extent, I also believe that the converse is true – that a messy environment can significantly contribute to feeling a bit chaotic inside.
That’s how it works for me, at least.
If I’m surrounded by mess, I feel really unsettled, anxious and irritable. There’s no way I can be calm, composed and in control if I’m living or working in a pig sty.
And Son#1 and I are like two peas in a pod!! We are ridiculously similar he and I =)
He hates his room … so, I know that if he gets here on Friday and sees his room looking fresh and fabulous, he’s going to be really stoked!
I’ve tried and failed to do this in the evenings after work for the last 2 days – I’m just too wasted to take on dirty dishes, never mind Spring Cleaning!! I ain’t the Domestic Un-goddess for no reason 🙂
So today will be a wee bit different. After I’ve sorted out a few work odds ‘n ends, I’m breaking the normal routine and taking a few hours off after lunch to dive into this HUGE job!
In doing this for him I hope to take the burden of external turmoil off his shoulders and create a little bit of peace in his life.
In simplifying his environment I want to help him, perhaps inspire him, try to encourage him, show him that I’m on his side and make a small difference in his life.
This SO deserves my energy!!
Just in case you’re wondering, Son#2’s room will be on the Weekend Agenda 🙂 |
