That’s it! I have officially retired IE as my default browser … hrmpf.
Don’t ask me why it took me this long, I’m an idiot! When Firefox first came out, I was using that and only used IE to check that my sites weren’t broken. More recently, it’s been the other way around.
Anyway, last night I urgently need to get some things done online before a certain time and my machine was playing games with me. It was ridiculously slow and I could just about do nothing. I spent a few hours completely freaking out that I was going to miss the deadline, ready to tear my hair out – I have ZERO patience for technical rubbish. I checked my print spooler to see if there was a document stuck in there again, but nope, not this time. I bring up my Task Manager and check the processes. And there … chewing up 80% of my resources is friggin IE! Gah! End Process.
So now, I’ve converted back to Firefox, permanently. Way overdue it seems, my old laptop IMMEDIATELY started running so much better!
Right, now I need your advice please …
I was using the built in feed reader in IE, which I like because it was really easy to subscribe to feeds, it didn’t take up any screen real estate and it notified me when there were any new posts in my feeds. As of this morning, I’ve got feeds coming through Firefox and I’m not thrilled. It doesn’t do what I’m used to and I’m sure there’s something more efficient out there.
Do you perhaps have any suggestions for me? If you use a good reader and can recommend it, please de-lurk and let me know! Thanx =) Later …

I need to setup a new machine – my Dad sold me his gorgeous iMac a few months ago – and in true Queen of Procrastination style, I’ve been delaying this long, arduous task. My main reason (read: excuse) has been the daunting idea of having to source about a gazillion passwords to apply to all the applications, sites and email accounts I run.
Oh gosh, it’s been YEARS since I setup up some of this stuff, I have no idea where it’s all scattered and having to hunt around for all the info I need is a scary thought … I’m pretty sure some of it’s gone forever too. This ever happened to you?
Well, fab news! I picked up on an entry from the LifeHacker website yesterday called “Recover Lost Passwords with Free Tools.”
So, I’m going to go and check some of these free tools out to see if they can help make my transition onto the iMac less traumatic. There’s one in particular called Revelation by SnadBoy that looks very promising.
In the future, I’m going to have to avoid this situation and find a decent, safe way to store all my login info. KeePass looks like it may be a good option. See what you think: http://keepass.info

As I’m writing this, I am “participating” in a meeting that’s being held right this minute at the Bandwidth Barn in Cape Town. It’s the WordPress Cape Town gathering and they apparently get together once a month to do things like discuss everything WP, swop plugins and themes, eat, drink and be merry!
I only found out about the meeting today, via adii’s blog, and it’s fully booked so I obviously can’t attend …
BUT … how’s this … I am being kept up to date on everything that’s happening via my newly-opened Twitter account! Every few minutes adii sends through a new tweet to keep all of us following him updated on what the various guest speakers are saying. And I can send in my 2 cents’ worth too!
Isn’t that awesome!! Don’t ever tell me Twitter is a useless, frivolous waste of time! I’m sold.
I think technology like this is fantastic but then, I am a such a geek =)
