Hold the phones – I’m going out!

Yes, you read correctly!

Yours truly is actually leaving the house for a Social Event … w00t!! (Mmk, I have NO idea what that means, but it looks funky, right?)

After yesterday’s misery (which is now just a memory, thank goodness) I have decided that I need some fun, so for once, I’m not going out for a trip to the gym, nor to do The Dreaded Weekly Grocery Shop, nor to play Mom’s Taxi. Nope, I am going out to par-TAY!!! A real live birthday bash =)

Yes please, bring it on!

Actually, I’m shitting myself hahaha

My shy self is going to have to dig REALLY deep to do this. I’m going to a place I’ve never been to before (the venue does look awesome though) and I’m going to be in the midst of 40-odd people that I’ve never met before. That’s asking a LOT from a shy introvert! The only contact I’ve had with any of them so far has been online.

But most of me is really looking forward to it. I want to get out, I want to meet new people and I want to have fun, so this A Good Thing. And I’m dying to meet the birthday girl =)

So, I’m taking a bit of time off work today to pop in to Cavendish to go and scout around for a little birthday pressie now.

Enjoy your Friday!! Later xxx

Seether concert was fantastic

Thanks to Sir G, I actually got to see Seether live in concert at Cape Town’s Grand West Arena last night! Wow … what an evening!

We left home at 6.30pm, me suitably attired in a black, rock-chick outfit and Sir G wearing his brand new “iPod” Tshirt from Springleap.com =) It was nice to see such a mix of people there – the normal throng of screeching teenies, yes, but also a lot of older people along with (and I thought this was so sweet) quite a few dads there with their offspring.

We arrived at the venue as Love Jones was playing, I’ve never really been a fan of theirs, but I think their music is starting to grow on me a bit (if I close my eyes and avoid looking at their lead singer.) I saw them last year in Joburg where they supported Fall Out Boy and was less than impressed. But last night’s session was actually pretty good. Although that lead singer (can’t remember her name), she seriously needs to be nominated for that “How Do I Look?” makeover show! Bright green leggings, red takkies, a sloppy, mud-coloured, falling-off-the-shoulder Tshirt and probably the scariest hairstyle ever, do not add up to anything REMOTELY resembling attractiveness … urgh!

Anyway, moving on. The next band up was 12th Avenue. Have you heard them before? I haven’t. They are from Cape Town and apparently they get quite a bit of airtime on 5fm, but I don’t listen to the radio much. They were great! I think I’m a fan already =) Their lead singer has an engaging on-stage presence and a really good voice. The music was not too shabby and the whole band was really vibing! They put on an excellent show and I really enjoyed them.

Then there was another band, but I have no idea who they were. They were just OK. Unfortunately their singer’s voice was completely drowned out so you couldn’t hear what the hell he was singing. I got bored, so I dashed out for a quick smoke break and another beer.

And then … drum roll … the main act: SEETHER.

Awesomeness =)

They were so good, actually much better than the last time I saw them 3 years ago at My Coke Fest in Green Point Stadium. They have worked hard on their live act and it shows! They’ve been touring with Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin in the States and have really polished up their show in that time. Of course, they now also have a whole bunch more tunes to deliver and their set was a nice mixture of their new stuff together with some older songs from the Saron Gas days. Time just flew by as I lapped up their performance and it ended all too soon for me!

Sorry – I didn’t take any photos of the concert – I didn’t want to risk having my phone confiscated. They are very strict about all types of recording and when we went to the Mary J Blige concert last year, I saw quite a few people losing their phones.

And then we decided to be rather impulsive and try our hand at the slots … we WERE at a casino afterall!

10 Minutes later and I was R1200 richer!!!! Hehehe =) I’ve never won so much in my life! Stoked! I hurriedly cashed in and left before I was tempted to carry on and see if I could win more …

A really great night =)

Nearly weekend and I’m a lucky cowgrrrl

Weekend already!? Wow, where did the week go?

So, what are my plans for the next coupla days you ask?

Hmm …. Well, I could just copy and paste my post from last Friday to show you what’s on the agenda. Yes, sadly, apart from a rather fun Poker Night with Cowgrrrl, not much else got accomplished =( I still have many, many boxes to unpack, I still have a super messy room and cupboard, I haven’t done any of that “light reading” and my roots are still lighter than the rest of my hair … plus, I now have the added task of debugging some code that ain’t working. And, of course there’s The Dreaded Weekly Grocery Shopping to do. Grimness.

BUT …

How is THIS for The Most Awesome News Ever?? Sir G has just told me that he has bought us tickets to see SEETHER live at the Grand West Arena on Sunday!! I am such a lucky brat.

*HUMUNGOUS FRIGGIN’ GRIN*

I can’t believe it, I am sooooooooo excited =)

“Thank you Sir G”

And even more good news (but not nearly as thrilling) is that I have now hired someone to come in and help me with my iMac! There’s something wrong with my wireless thingymabob so it can’t connect to anything yet. At least that mission is off my plate and it’ll soon be on the network, talking to all the other machines and hooked up to the interwebs. STOKED! Then all I need to do is install … ok, that could take a while as I have TONS of software that I use every day, and even more that I want to test but don’t have space to load up on this old dinosaur.

I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to unpack boxes this weekend. I have done something to my back and it hurts like hell. I can’t even find a comfortable position to sit in, so I doubt if I’ll be able to dive into all these cardboard monstrosities. Dunno what the hell I’ve done. I think I may have tweaked it at gym doing all those crunches over a stability ball. Jeesh, I must really be getting old! But I don’t care if they have to carry me out of the concert, I’m gonna have a ROCKING good time and I can’t wait =)

Hey, it’s FATHER’S DAY on Sunday – hope you haven’t forgotten! Perhaps my Dad and I can get together and have a bite to eat somewhere. That would be nice.

And Monday is a public holiday, so I’ll have an extra day to make a dent in that Great Wall of China To Do List and get some shit done.

I really hope my horoscope (or should that be horrorscope?) for tomorrow is wrong … how’s this for a daily dose of encouragement:

“Today is going to be a series of ‘Oh no’s.’ You can’t even believe how many little things can go wrong in 24 hours. And it’ll take A LOT longer than that amount of time to clear everything up. What a freakin’ mess.”

Honestly … How RUDE! I don’t buy into this rubbish, but just in case, fingers and toes crossed that this is all crap and please send happy pink bubble vibes …

Hope you all have a good one!

Screwed again

Fick. Fack. Feck. Need to have a little vent …. My ex has done it again – messed things up for me, and the boys.

You see, I don’t get to go out very often. In fact, if I go out once a month, it’s a lot. If I go out twice a month, my social life is overdrive! When I actually do have plans to go out and do something other than gym or grocery shopping, it’s a big deal for me. And the boys only get to be with their dad every alternate weekend and perhaps one night during the week, if he’s not working.

This weekend, I’ve hit the jackpot – TWO invitations for dinner! I’ve been psyching myself up for over a week already, trying to generate some adrenaline to combat my fatigue and pain so that when the weekend rolls around, I’m mentally prepared to have a good time.

So there I am, all geared up and excited to go out and relax, knowing that the boys are going to be with their dad and I’m going to have a bit of a break. (I love my kids to death, but I do need some time out occasionally, you know what I mean?) I emailed him to find out what time he’s going to fetch the kids on Friday, because sometimes he gets here really late. And he replies to say: “Sorry, I’m away on business this weekend, and I’m away the whole of next week too.” AAARRRGHH!! Thanks for letting me know, thanks for letting us all down … AGAIN!

He keeps doing this to us – messing us around, inconveniencing me and sending out a clear message to the boys that his work is more important than them! I know he’s a big shot at his work, I know he works hard and he’s all very important and all that, but really, this is just not on anymore …

Weekend assortment

I thought Saturday night was going to be dull, boring and tiresome and it totally lived up to my expectations. Throw shrieking kids, horrible bright lighting and some really awful music into the mix and it was all a bit of a nightmare! And the food, well, the bread was nice =) I couldn’t wait to get out of there. Shame, I guess I shouldn’t be too judgmental; apparently that was their first attempt at a potjie, so kudos for effort and bravery …

Yesterday was nice and relaxing. I’ve managed to get the lounge organized and looking half decent so we lit a fire and spent the afternoon watching the last day of the English Premier League. It was down to the wire – the whole league was to be decided from yesterday’s games – either Chelsea or Man United. Sir G is an avid Chelsea supporter, so I naturally took up Man U’s cause, just to irritate him =) Chelsea had to win their game and Man U had to either draw or lose theirs. Chelsea did not have a good day – they drew the game, they lost their captain, John Terry only 10 minutes into the game and Man U won.  These 2 teams face each other on the 21st in the UEFA Champion’s League in Moscow, so that should be a very interesting game to watch. It only starts at 9pm though. Hope I can stay awake.

After the soccer, we watched “The Pursuit of Happyness” with Will Smith and his little boy playing the leads. It’s a rather moving flick, based on a true story, of a man’s struggle to earn a living and look after his child. The story is simple, but the characterization is excellent, the writing and acting is stellar and the message is both hard hitting and inspiring. Some may think the message is about money buying happiness; I view it as being about pursuing a dream and not giving up, no matter how the odds are stacked against you. I also view it as a depiction of extreme bonding between father and son, and the sacrificing lengths a loving parent will go to, to nurture and provide the very best they can for their children. Will Smith give a fantastic performance in this movie, I highly recommend seeing it.

I am off to gym just now for the first time in 3 weeks – AAARGH!!! I am not looking forward to it at all. I think I am going to be really sore tomorrow. And the weather is revolting at the moment – it’s blowing a gale and raining and pretty chilly. It’s a “wild and woolly” day, as my darling, late gran would say =)

Weekend plans

Gosh, it’s Friday already! Man, this week has just zoomed past so quickly and I am still waaay behind on work – got 2 more biggish things to do before Monday and then I think I will have finally caught up. So yes, gonna have to unfortunately put in a few hours over the weekend.

I’ll also have to do the usual weekend clean up and go shopping for some food. I absolutely HATE shopping and I DETEST cleaning, so this is something I dread about weekends. Sometimes I think my life is just one long endless list of chores … I am no domestic goddess, that’s for sure.

Other than that, there’s a gathering at a friend’s house tomorrow night. Well, not my friends but Sir G’s friends. I have met them once or twice, so it won’t be THAT awkward, but I don’t think it’s going to be much fun compared to what it was SUPPOSED to be. Originally, it was going to be a whacky Pimps and Hoes thing, but with a twist: the guys had to dress up as the hoes!! What a riot! Would have been crazy fun =) But now, sadly, it has deteriorated into a Potjie. How the hell did that happen? From a wild, fun party to a pot of stew!! Urgh, so not in the mood for it …. And to make things even worse, we have to PAY for this sad, unappetizing little affair too. BWAHAHA! Creating good potjiekos is a real art and I haven’t come across many good “pot food” chefs before. Oh well …. Think I’ll just avoid the food and eat before we brave the long, cold drive out to their place (and take a whole bunch of liquor!)

Sunday is Mother’s Day – no idea what’s happening. The kids are with their dad this weekend which is a welcome break for me, it’s been weeks since I had the house to myself, but I guess I’ll miss them on Sunday ….
