Some pics from last night

I took a few snaps at the Fuse launch at The Book Lounge last night but dammit, the camera on my E65 is SO crap! Unfortunately, I’ve rather screwed up my N95 (with it’s brilliant little camera) by trying to dismantle it to replace the cover and keys. That was a complete FAIL and the repair shop have done their best to fix it but unfortunately they haven’t succeeded.

Anyhoo … here are the pics, as bad as they are …

That’s Sally Partridge in the pic above … sorry about the blurry face, Sally!

Nokia N95 firmware upgrade

This is something I have been DREADING!!

Had to be done though – my phone’s been doing some pretty weird stuff recently like randomly restarting itself, muting my side of a call so that the person on the other end can’t hear me at all and then last night it decided that it just absolutely was not going to launch the web application. That was the last straw … I can’t be without my mobilewebs!

My Dad told me last year already that this kind of nonsense can quickly be sorted out with a firmware upgrade but I didn’t want to do it because I was petrified of losing my applications, my contacts, my data etc. (No, I don’t synch with my pc ‘cos I land up getting double/triplicate contacts and all sorts of crap) and I’d been told that losing stuff was an unfortunate but inevitable side effect of upgrading.

Anyway, after last night I knew I had to take the plunge so I did some research on the interwebs this morning to see what the procedure was and, most importantly, to see if I could upgrade without losing anything. I was so relieved to find out from the SimplySymbian.com that it was doable! Here’s the link: http://www.simplysymbian.com/2007/05/02/how-to-upgrade-your-nokia-n95-firmware

I was extra cautious and backed up to my memory card (via Tools > Memory > Options) as well as to my pc, using the Nokia PC Suite Backup application. I downloaded the Nokia Software Application, installed it, took a deep breath and fired it up, making sure that my phone was fully charged and the memory card removed before I started. It was very easy, I just followed the application prompts.

It took about an hour for the software update to happen, then I restored everything and VOILA! It’s all working hundreds – I haven’t lost a thing AND my phone is now behaving itself =)

This post is not about the new iPhone

Seriously … it’s everywhere and I’m over it already. I just don’t see what all the hype is about. (Actually, I can’t see much of anything right now – I stupidly stuck my mascara brush in my eye this morning while trying to text from my phone and now it’s damn sore and everything looks a bit blurry.)

All I have to say is bravo to the Apple marketing team – they have once again done an outstanding job of reeling in all the trendies =)

Moving on …

Now, THIS is more my cuppa, the Nokia N96 – a real sexy little numba:

And then there’s also the new E-series:

I’m a Nokia fan. I’ve had a Nokia handset right from the early brick days, apart from the time I tried out a Motorolla MPX 220 for a while and completely hated it. My current N95 is a fantastic phone (I just need to upgrade the firmware) – I love the 5MP camera (one of 2 cameras on the phone!), the radio, the media player, easy connectivity, all the functional apps and cool games I now have on it, and the GPS is pretty awesome too.

OK, ‘nuff about phones. I need to eat and get some work done before I head off to gym just now.
