Cape Town emergency load shedding

Oh dear, I found out today that my suburb in Cape Town can expect more power cuts every Monday and Wednesday from 6pm to 8.30pm, starting today.

Luckily that doesn’t fall into official working hours so it won’t affect the business, but it does mean that I won’t be able to get online during that time, boil the kettle or warm any food up. That’s all manageable – we can have soup from flasks and bread, the kids can still study and I can read, thanks to our new little battery-powered book lights. No train smash there. But the worst part is missing LOST!!! Dammit, that IS a train smash … I could miss half the episode – how will I cope?

This is not the normal pre-emptive load shedding as determined by Eskom. Rather, it is emergency load shedding that is implemented only if required, and is applicable to the end of June 2008.

The Cape Town Emergency Load Shedding Schedule can be downloaded here as a PDF, from the City of Cape Town’s official website.
