Today is not going to go down as a ripper.

Unfortunately, I’ve lost a team member. He resigned last week, just prior to a disciplinary hearing and this morning I decided to pay him out for his notice period so that he could leave immediately and receive no further blemish on his record.

That was a tough choice as it means that I am now minus a staff member just as we’re heading into our craziest 3 months of the year. The slack obviously needs to get picked up on that side of the business and yours truly is going to have to work her butt off to make sure we stay on top of things! I foresee some long days ahead …

But quite honestly, it’s all for the best. In my opinion, the physical and mental stress of dealing with additional work is preferable to the debilitating emotional strain of dealing with one team member who no longer wants to play ball. And the effect it has had on the rest of my team, the ones who are dedicated, passionate and excited about their work, has been excruciating to watch.

But it’s over now and we can all get back to working as a unified force.

I’m really sad that it’s come down to this and ended on a bit of a sour note with this guy, but he had months and months of hand-holding, coaching, warnings and everything else we could think of to turn things around and give him every opportunity to sort himself out. Regrettably, not everyone wants to be helped and that’s just the way it is.

So … that’s where we’re at. I don’t have time to hire a new person and train them up – not now – and I’m bracing myself for 3 months of blood, sweat and tears!

Hopefully you will be able to spread the load a bit and not have to take everything on your shoulders. This where a TEAM comes into its own. It’s like when a rugby team is down to 14 men and the rest put in the extra effort to keep on track and still be winners.

I have no doubt that my team will come to the party … I really do work with some quite remarkable people who go above and beyond the call of duty when the occasion calls for it, without ever being asked.

The good news is that it looks like Brig can help out with some coding YAY! And Son#1 and a mate are also diving in to help with some admin stuffs during the holidays …

This is true … I am already seeing the evidence.

I’m with you, I’d rather have a ton of work than work with a jerk.
