The cow_grrrl bought herself an early Christmas pressie :D

It’s all my Dad’s fault … he rocked up here to show me HIS new toy,
which I recognised as being the *perfect* solution for my future Out and Aboutness!

So I spoiled myself and bought the MSI WIND U100.

Hehe … bread and water for the next month.

    1. Dad says:

It is really a great little machine but – I am taking mine back as it can’t load the software I need to run on it.
I need to load the Canon camera software but it needs a higher screen resolution and there seems to be no way around it.

    2. justB[coz] says:

That’s such a pity!! Is there anything else similar that you can get to hook up to on shoots?

    3. Dad says:

Not sure! Going to have a look around today when I take the machine back. I am pretty sure nothing the same size and weight.

    4. SaulK says:

@”Dad” : Unfortunately the MSI has the normal resolution for netbooks with 1024X600. What software are you trying install as I’m sure there is an alternative.

@JustB[coz]: Dammot, I love this thing. I’ve got the EEE700 (the tiiiiny 7-inch model and it’s very cool. I need an excuse to buy one of these for Christmas (which is problematic since I’m Jewish :p ).

Enjoy using it, the MSI is in my opinion the best of the Netbooks out there.

    5. StevenMcD says:

      very very nice :D

That kitteh photo is just begging to be a lolCat ;)

    6. B says:

But does it come in pink???

    7. Dad says:

@Saulk – I need to load the Canon software that came with the camera – Eos 1d mk111. It has all the drivers, utility and viewing software that you need when tethering the camera to a computer. As soon as you try to run set up it rejects because of screen resolution.

    8. justB[coz] says:

@SaulK … I’m sure I’m gonna LUVVIT – I still need to load up a bunch of apps, but what I’ve installed and used so far is working brilliantly (although I could do with some more RAM). And I totally suck at the trackpad thing, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.

@StevenMcD … isn’t it sweet? That’s the younger Burmese – his name is Rocky aka The Noonoo :-)

@B … YES!!! It comes in pink WAH!

    9. Amod Munga says:

JEALOUS now. Still messing about with my EEE2G. Hmmm…maybe I can regift it to my boet…

    10. justB[coz] says:

@Amod … hmmm, had a quick squiz at reviews for that machine. I’d say ditch it and get the WIND hehe …

And I’m sure your boet would be stoked to get a freebie :-)

    11. Dad says:

Well it looks as if I get to keep my little machine.
I had a brain wave last night and took it in to Orms to see if it would work and it did.
I can now tether to my camera and view through Zoom Browser. Fantastic!!!

    12. justB[coz] says:

Brilliant!! That’s so cool Dad :-)

Sheesh, you never fail to floor me with your gadget know-how!!

BTW, this may interest you … Marcel Oudejans pointed out this rather nifty little device, a portable charger for laptops – https://powertraveller.com/iwantsome/primatepower/powergorilla

    13. Dad says:

That little gadget is half the price of the Notebook. I think I can sort something out a bit cheaper.

    14. justB[coz] says:

      I’m sure you can ;-)

Let us know if you find something …

    15. Andre says:

      Shexy!
You know you can install OSX on the Wind, right? :) )
      Just sayin’…

    16. justB[coz] says:

      @Andre … ooooh!

Actually, I haven’t even switched over on my iMac yet – just never seem to get there!

Gosh, it’s been YEARS since I worked in Mac Mode … literally. Would be fun to give it a shot again :-)

    17. Chris M says:

It’s a very cool machine indeed, loving the colour! Although, I think I’ll take the packet in the bottom photo though ;)

Mine can meet yours soon :)

    18. justB[coz] says:

Hehehehe … yeah, it’s a fab little thing!

I’ve called it Brucie WAH :D

I name all the machines here after something related to a fantasy novel. I’m a beeeeg fan of the fantasy genre and it’s where I got the inspiration for the name of the business …

So “Brucie” is the fairy name for a forest sprite :-)

    19. Chris M says:

Oh ok, I dated someone who named all her cars (she went through 4 in 6months, eeeek), so since then I started naming mine ;)

    20. justB[coz] says:

HUH? She went through 4 cars in 6 months??? I hope she didn’t crash them!?

Or was she just REALLY difficult to please? (Which would probably explain why you ain’t dating her no more, hey?)

    21. Chris M says:

Ye, she did :( She was alright each time, but that’s the thing, when you’re still studying you can’t afford a decent car, so a small crash normally leads to a write-off, etc..

REALLY difficult is not far off either ;)

    22. Leon says:

Er … slightly off topic … but what is my cat doing in your box?

    23. justB[coz] says:

OMG Leon! Your kittehs are clones of mine!!!

Seriously, this pic – http://flickr.com/photos/ljj/232999059/ – could actually be Rocky and Ollie!!

Wah – NOW I know why you tweeted that question at me earlier today :D

      And check these out:

    24. Rich says:

Message for ‘Dad’ – how did you overcome the problems of screen resolution to install the canon software. I have exactly the same issue on my new netbook and it was one of the main reasons for bying it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    25. Dad says:

@Rich – We connected a hi res screen to the note book and then loaded. You can then use Zoom browser but not Digital photo professional to import when tethered. Hope that helps.
